The Castelli Romani Park celebrates the Sughereta di Pomezia Reserve: weekend of events from 7 to 9 June

To celebrate the Forty years since the establishment of the Castelli Romani Parka special weekend is coming to celebrate the natural beauty and biodiversity of Sughereta di Pomezia Nature Reserve. This weekend, from 7 to 9 June, the free initiatives organized by the Park Authority will move to Sughereta, a precious green lung in the heart of the Pometo area, managed since 2016 by the Parco dei Castelli Romani.

Friday 7 June

The prologue will be the qualified conference held on the afternoon of Friday 7 June, in the great hall of the Municipality of Pomezia, in Piazza Antonio Cederna, entitled “The Biodiversity of the Bosco della Sughereta”. The conference will begin at 3.30 pm, with institutional greetings: the Mayor of Pomezia Veronica Felici, the Extraordinary Commissioner of the Castelli Romani Park Ivan Boccali and the Regional Councilor for Budget, Economic Planning, Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, Hunting and Fishing, Parks and Foreste, Giancarlo Righini, followed, as the first speech, by the Director of the Castelli Romani Park, Dr. geol. Emanuela Angelone, who will talk about the geological continuity between Parco dei Castelli and Sughereta and Tor Caldara, as an opportunity for effective protection.

Saturday 8 June

“A green lung in the heart of Pomezia”

Hours: 9.30am – 1.30pm
The ‘Meles Meles’ association will guide participants on an exploratory walk to discover the ecological importance of the Sughereta. This forest has survived intensive agriculture and urbanization, maintaining a preponderance of cork oaks (Quercus suber) and providing refuge for a variety of other plant and animal species. Participants will have the opportunity to learn the history of the Sughereta and the fundamental role it plays in the conservation of local biodiversity.

“Six legs. Walk for little entomologists”

Hours: 10:00 – 13:00
This event, organized by the ‘GEA’ association, is dedicated to children aged six and over. During the walk, the young explorers will learn about the insects that populate the Sughereta Reserve. Educators will guide children through a fascinating journey into the world of insects, teaching them to observe with attention and curiosity. The activity also includes a creative workshop on butterflies, where children can learn through play and direct experience.

Sunday 9 June

“La Sughereta: a precious forest”

Hours: 10:00 – 17:00
Organized by the association ‘In Labore Fructus Aps’, this day is dedicated to plein air painting. After an exploratory walk to discover the Sughereta, the participating artists will be able to choose a corner of the forest to stop and create their works. The natural beauty of the place, with its centuries-old oak trees and rich biodiversity, will offer endless artistic inspiration. This event is not only an opportunity for artists to express their creativity, but also for all participants to appreciate nature through the eyes of art.

“Discovering insects and birds”

Hours: 10:00 – 18:00
An excursion dedicated to families, this activity invites participants to explore the Sughereta in search of insects and birds. Guided by expert naturalists, participants will learn to identify and count the different species present in the forest. This excursion offers an immersive educational experience, promoting knowledge of biodiversity and environmental awareness among adults and children. It will be an opportunity to experience a day in the open air, observing the wonders of nature up close.
