Tall as expected: Pino Di Carlo is the new president of the Foggia Chamber of Commerce for the five-year period 2024-2029. The “little parliamentarian” indicated this with an open vote – 21 preferences out of 25 – with the unanimity of those present (the representatives of Coldiretti, Cia, Copagri and Confagricoltura left the work before the start). The construction worker from Foggia, “baptized” by the president of Confindustria Eliseo Zanasi (he led the work because he was the oldest member of the assembly), he repeated the term “alliance” several times, to encourage development, innovation and with the institutions. “We have great individuals in the area, but they grow on their own – he stated – we must change this idea of development and ensure that many people are together to grow with the aim of improving collective well-being”.
On the terrible economic data of the Capitanata, conditioned by high unemployment rates and the lack of attractiveness for investments, he responds: “It is an anomaly that the Capitanata pays this price – he comments – because it is a province-region, with beauty and potential. There are several factors that have blocked development. We are overcoming some of them, starting with the main environmental deterrent, the so-called fourth mafia, effectively opposed by the work of the police and the judiciary. You can breathe new air. In the wake of this new air, we must bring contents that are part of a clear project for the future, capable of delivering a better territory to our children”.
On infrastructure, however, he makes it known that there will be no “battles”, starting with the “Gino Lisa” airport in Foggia, but the focus will be on development projects. “The airport has finally started – he commented -, we are now at year zero, the first year and a half can almost not be considered considering that it has been closed for 20 years. Today the numbers are proving us right, which is why we need to grow by bringing people to our territory, both for tourism and for agriculture and investments.
Finally the reply to the agricultural ones. “I wouldn’t even want to reply. A decision was made that I do not agree with, but which I understand: in a democracy we must understand even the most extreme positions. But I don’t agree with it. The agricultural world says it doesn’t feel represented, yet they had the presidency of the Chamber for two consecutive terms in a row, had an impact on the subsequent renewal, and left the last council with the vice presidency. This is evidently an extreme position that is difficult to understand. However – he concludes – I think that dialogue can allow us to overcome these problems in the exclusive interest of the Capitanata”.
