The industrialist Luigi Caprari dies. Farewell to the pioneer of hydromechanics

Modena, 4 June 2024 – Farewell to Luigi Caprari, 87 years old, former entrepreneur and founder of the Caprari group in the 1950s. Known in the industrial entourage of Modena, ‘Mr Luigi’, as everyone called him, “left us an indelible memory in those who were lucky enough to know and associate with him”, his family points out.

He was not someone who loved fame or the spotlight, but he certainly enjoyed that natural and spontaneous esteem that is only recognized in those who are admired because it induces sincere respect, both personal and professional. Already in the 1950s, at the beginning of the successful path of the Caprari company of Modena, he was involved by his father Amadio, founder of the ‘Idromeccanica Caprari’ company for his innate skills as a technical designer and fine organiser. Luigi Caprari thus began to design the first innovative Caprari pumps, entirely conceived by him, which stood out from the competition for their superior performance, innovative solutions and refined design. He gave birth to several new products, some of which were so innovative and efficient that they are still appreciated today and have become iconic in the world of water. The ’60s were the boom years for him and for the company, years where it was really difficult to satisfy the demand of customers, first Italian and then soon international, hungry for high quality products and services. But it was in the 70s that there was a real leap in quality and the new factory was born on Via Emilia, designed by Luigi Caprari with a modern and rational layout and which is still the beating heart of the company. However, his true passion was, as many know, organization: corporate of course, which today we would say of skills, activities and production structures. As a far-sighted entrepreneur, he was among the first in those years to recognize the importance of hiring high-level expert collaborators, to build a team – a first line of management – which gave an edge to the company and a great boost to his development. And he was its skilled coordinator, the ‘general director’ for thirty years, and never was a more fitting title. In 1970, together with his brother Giorgio, he created Caprari France on the outskirts of Paris, in 1980 Bombas Caprari in Spain with expert local partners, then the English branch and industrial joint ventures to expand into the most promising foreign markets, strengthening customer service. The company today is part of Wateralia, a group of international importance born with Caprari Spa in 2021. Upon its handover which took place way back in 2002, it followed its imprimatur by continuing the evolutionary path with subsequent generations, growing and transforming itself as it has necessary to follow the water markets, which are highly globalized and specialized today. His beloved large family remembers him with sincere gratitude and love, for the example he left, of honesty and inner richness. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 11am in the church of Sant’Agnese.
