Just a few more hours and it will be time for the polls: in addition to the elections for the renewal of the European Parliament, for 87 Cremonese municipalities next 8 and 9 June will also be the day of choosing the next administrators, with the renewal of the Mayor and the City Council.
We analyzed the data relating to this electoral round to find out what the situation is in the area.
As mentioned, they are 87 municipalities are interested in voting, including Cremona, which renews its Mayor after two consecutive mandates of Gianluca Galimberti. There are 6 candidates for the mayor’s seat, represented by 14 lists.
After Cremona, the most populous municipality is that of Casalmaggiore, ‘capital’ of Casalasco, with just over 15 thousand inhabitants; the choice will be between 4 candidates, including the outgoing Fabio Bongiovanni who is proposing for his second mandate.
From largest to smallest: Derovere with its 284 inhabitants it proposes only one list for the successor of Massimo Suardi, who leaves after his third mandate since 2019.
But it is not just the smaller municipalities that have presented a single list: out of 87, there are 32 (which correspond to almost 40% of the total) those where There will be only one symbol on the ballot paper. Among these, more than half exceed a thousand inhabitants, a sign that it is not just the smaller villages that suffer from disaffection and disinterest in local politics and that being a mayor is evidently no longer such an interesting prospect.
But beyond the more ‘philosophical’ aspects, going into practice the problem arises quorumi.e. the fact that, where there is only one list, if they did not go to the polls at least the 40% of those entitled, the vote would be invalid. Similarly, if, despite exceeding the first threshold of 40%, the list presented did not receive at least 50% plus one of the valid votes, the election would not be considered valid. In both cases, the solution would be the administration of the Municipality for the next five years. All the more reason, therefore, mayors and mayoral candidates urge their fellow citizens to go to the polls.
