Human chain to say enough to erosion – Teramo

MARTINSICURO. The anti-erosion movement Villa Rosa sud – Alba Adriatica, together with other associations in the area, is organizing a large flash mob for Saturday 17 August at 11am – that is, a gathering of several people suddenly summoned to a public place to stage an action unusual – whose objective will be to raise awareness among the institutions to start as soon as possible the construction of the barriers that have emerged close to the shoreline of Villa Rosa south and Alba north, a stretch of beach that has practically disappeared in recent years due to the strong erosion phenomenon. Taking advantage of the presence of thousands of tourists naturally sensitive to the problem that weekend, a human chain over a kilometer long will be created which will go from the Silvestro pier, adjacent to the Il Brigantino concession in Villa Rosa, to the first pine forest of Alba Adriatica. Hand in hand, hundreds of people will ask that the Abruzzo Region start the work for the construction of the cliffs, already financed, as soon as possible, in order to save tourism in the two locations.
«The phenomenon», the anti-erosion movement says, «has been going on for decades, there is little that can be done: we have explained and over-explained why, and erosion occurs even simply with the afternoon phenomenon of high tide, even without storm surge, both in Villa Rosa south and in Alba Adriatica. The sand fill made in Alba will unfortunately be lost quickly if the sea is even slightly rough, but in Villa Rosa south everything has already been completely lost. The erosive phenomenon is slow, at times very slow, but continuous and constant throughout the year, and is continuing its inexorable and unstoppable race in a southerly direction. It’s a bastard cancer because when there’s nothing left to eat it doesn’t stop, but simply continues moving further south and so on, creating a domino effect that never stops. Emerged breakwater cliffs: this is what we are continuously asking the leaders of the Abruzzo Region, given that the entire immense technical bureaucratic process has been addressed and concluded and there is nothing left to do but to start the construction site as soon as the tender process is concluded contract which will assign the work to the company that will carry out the work”.
