“With the spending review for local authorities established by the 2024 budget law, the Meloni government will cut vital resources from Italian municipalities over the next five years. According to the criteria established by the law itself, the cuts will be calculated 50% on the current part resources and the remaining 50% in proportion to the contributions assigned to each entity based on the PNRR resources. This means that those municipalities that have been able to attract and obtain greater PNRR funds will be penalized. As reported by Anci Toscana, the municipalities, if the implementing decree were approved, would find themselves in the unpleasant situation of having to choose whether to cut services to citizens, or not be able to make the Pnrr works expected for years work.
Tuscany will have a total cut of 80 million euros, while in the municipality of Siena the cut would amount to around one and a half million euros, an important figure, considering the fact that half of this will concern in the municipal budget, part revenues current therefore a reduction in the municipal administration’s ability to spend and invest in services to citizens for the next 5 years.
Faced with these extremely worrying data, as a council group of the Democratic Party we have presented a council question to which the signatures of the Progetto Siena group have been added, in which we ask what actions the Administration plans to undertake so that the competent ministries review this maneuver, since the national government is supported by the same forces as the municipal majority and how do you plan to overcome this significant cut in current state revenue, also for the next few years. Our cry of alarm adds to that of a multitude of administrators of all political colors throughout Italy, who ask that the Meloni government’s maneuver be suspended or clearly modified”.
