The unrepeatable examination on Angelo Onorato’s smartphone will be carried out on Thursday by the scientific police to identify the last contacts of the entrepreneur, husband of the MEP Francesca Donato, found lifeless last May 25th in Palermo, inside his Range Rover parked in viale Regione Siciliana northwest, the side slip road of the motorway in the direction of Mazara del Vallo. He had a plastic strap tied around his neck and some blood stains on his shirt. The verification will also be fundamental to extrapolate any conversations contained in the messaging and social network apps installed on the mobile phone that may be useful to the investigations.

But it won’t be the only check on electronic devices: the tablet and the “Land Rover incontrol” will also be checked, the navigation system, constantly connected to the GPS, which allows you to monitor the entire functionality of the car by providing a series of data, even those from open windows and doors, which could provide the exact sequence of events on that Saturday.

Among the services provided by this technology there is also the “secure tracker” which could reveal all the movements made by Onorato before stopping at the isolated point where he was found dead by his wife and daughter. Based on the reconstruction known so far, the architect would have gone to pick up his brother-in-law at the airport, and then drink a coffee with him in a bar on Viale Strasburgo. At 10.45am the cameras placed on that north-west stretch of Viale Regione Siciliana recorded the first passage of the car near the workshop of a dealership: a ten minute stop, then the SUV, with only Onorato, would have stopped moved away to return shortly afterwards to the same position, stopping in front of the abandoned fire station. From the videos it appears that no vehicle approached the Range Rover and no passers-by were filmed approaching it. The only possibility of arriving incognito with the intention of killing him would have been to climb over the two meter high concrete wall that delimits the motorway: a lead, not discarded a priori, which however is considered highly unlikely.

Investigators are increasingly convinced that it was a suicide, perhaps “instigated” by someone who could have put pressure on him in the context of some business that would have turned into insurmountable boulders. The family, however, remains convinced that the entrepreneur was killed. In the three-page letter, written in February, which Onorato had left to his lawyer friend Fabrizio Macchiarella and to be delivered to his wife in case something happened to him, there were two disturbing passages: he had put in black and white that he had trusted the wrong people and he had expressed some fears due to people who “loved him badly”.

Friends and acquaintances swore that there were no signs to justify the extreme gesture, in reality the entrepreneur may have been careful not to reveal his concerns even to his family and closest relatives. He had no debts but there would be a series of strange financial operations that fueled the mystery even further. One in particular: Onorato had sold some shares of his companies, interested in a development planned in Capaci, on the land that had been left to him by his father. Coincidentally, in the very same territory where he had said he had to resolve an important issue before his disappearance.

Certainly, in the last period, he had seemed so upset that he would have confided this state of mind to his sister: for this reason the flying squad agents will listen again to the parliamentarian who will have offered new ideas for recomposing her husband’s affairs.
