The doors of the gym of the State Comprehensive Institute in Viale Amedeo d’Aosta in Palermo were closed for the children of President Onofrio Giannone’s Asd Nazario Sauro. The manager of the Alagna complex, Professor Cannistraro, revoked its use due to the failure to sanitize the premises. In fact, the justifications given by Giannone to the director of the complex were not considered valid, whose communication of the revocation was also forwarded to all the competent institutional bodies. «Now dozens and dozens of young people from Brancaccio and Sperone will no longer have the opportunity to frequent a place that mainly avoids them from the dangers of the road in an area at risk like the south-eastern one of Palermo – reports Onofrio Giannone – For over twenty years our association carries out intense work with young people to whom, with enormous human and economic difficulties, we give the opportunity to carry out mainly sporting activities. In all these years, there has always been great collaboration with the school directors and all the teachers of the Nazario Sauro school, where in the past I also held the position of president of the school council. In all these years we have tried to make the gym also accessible to the school in the absence of interventions from the Municipality. Unfortunately, our reports, for the good and safety of the users, were not appreciated resulting in the revocation of the agreement. Ultimately, I intend to point out that, currently, during curricular hours, students who attend the gym are prohibited from using the bathrooms of the gym itself and alternatively using those in the school complex, thus confirming our statement”.
The reply from the Alagna Plexus was not long in coming: «The justification given by the Asd Nazario Sauro is not considered valid – reiterates a note from the school director – Pursuant to article 5 of the Convention it is, in fact, recognized by the Institution school the right to revoke, at any time, the temporary use of the gym for serious non-compliances, where the justifications received are not considered valid. In the response of the legal representative of the ASD Nazario Sauro it is asserted, in fact, that the conditions for carrying out their sporting activity in safety are lacking, assertions that remain at the level of inferences”.
A revocation, therefore, which would seem definitive but which for the Asd Nazario Sauro is only the beginning of a long negotiation in search of a solution that could allow the children to return to the gym from the beginning of the next school year.
