Road tragedy this morning on State Road 115 Gela – Scoglittialong which an investment occurred which involved a group of cyclists, in which one man lost his life, and another was hospitalized under code red. The dynamics are not clear at the moment, with the investigations of the case conducted by the police still ongoing, however it seems that a van was involved, which probably hit the cyclists.
In a group on the coast road
The violent impact therefore caused the death of one of the members of the group of cyclists: the man, originally from Mazzarone (in the province of Catania), together with his other companions was traveling along the coast road coming from Gela, towards Scoglitti. AND the conditions of the other cyclist hit by the heavy vehicle are worrying, transported to hospital after ambulances and an air ambulance arrived on site. Traffic on the SS115 was therefore temporarily interrupted to allow emergency services to be carried out.
More and more tragedies
Anyway the tragic episode brings the issue of safety for cyclists back into the spotlight on Sicilian and Italian roads, with increasingly frequent accidents and deaths. Too often it is amateur cyclists who pay the price who, riding their bicycles, most of the time in company, are engaged in outings to enjoy their passion for cycling and the beauties of the area, but who despite themselves find themselves involved in accidents, even fatal ones. We do not want to anticipate the results of the necessary investigations on the case which occurred in the last few hours, with the responsibilities still to be ascertained, but there is no doubt that the problem existsand must be addressed both with the rules of the highway code but also with education and awareness-raising.
