Sardinia, tourism data 2023

The tourist appeal of Sardinia continues to increase, where there is also a boom in the non-hotel accommodation sector.

This is confirmed by the data from the latest Istat report relating to the “Lodged Web” project, which processed information relating to the tourism sector acquired by the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Tourism.

The numbers concern the year 2023, during which the Island recorded 3.7 million arrivals (+7.7% compared to 2022) and 15.7 million presences (+6.5%).

More signs that concern, as mentioned, above all the non-hotel accommodation sector. If “traditional” hotels and accommodation facilities saw an increase in attendance of 1.5% last year, non-hotel accommodation facilities closed 2023 with a +12.1%.

However, hotel facilities remain the most popular choice, with 64.3% of presences out of the total.

As regards the type of customers welcomed in the island’s facilities, the report notes that 51.6% of presences are made up of residents, while the presence of non-residents stands at 48.4%.

NATIONAL DATA – Looking at the data at national level, Italy recorded overall over 134 million arrivals in 2023 (16 million more than in 2022, +13.4%) and 451 million presences (39 million more compared to 2022, +9.5%). Absolute record numbers.

VENETO AT THE TOP – The region with the highest number of presences is Veneto (15.9% of national presences), followed by Trentino-Alto Adige (12.4%), Tuscany, Lombardy and Lazio (all slightly higher than 10%).

The first region in the South is Campania, with 4.5% of national presences (just over 20 million presences).
