The driver of the truck that fell from the overpass in Sassari has died.
This morning, around 11, a lorry fell from an overpass at kilometer 10 of the Sassari-Alghero, causing the death of the driver. Despite prolonged resuscitation attempts by rescuers, the man died due to the serious injuries sustained.
The driver, initially conscious and unable to answer the rescuers’ questions, he saw his condition deteriorate rapidly. For over two hours, doctors desperately tried to save him, but… all attempts they turned out to be in vain. The victim was identified as a 65-year-old from Porto Torres, employee of a Lombard transport company.
The rescue operations were particularly difficult due to the position in which the truck crashed. The vehicle ended up among the dense Mediterranean scrub, in a precarious situation, complicating it further the intervention. The rescuers, including the firefighters, 118, the air ambulance, the local police of Sassari and the carabinieri, were forced to lower themselves from the fire brigade helicopter to reach the truck.
There dynamics of the accident is still under investigation, while on site the authorities are trying to clarify the causes that led to the tragic fall of the heavy vehicle.
