Thanks to four victories out of the five races contested overall in the three days of competition by twenty-one crews, the champion helmsman and CO Slam Enrico Chieffi and the Star Olympian in Sydney 2000 Nando Colaninno (crew also holder of three consecutive Italian titles – 2023 in Viareggio, ’22 in Gaeta and ’21 in Brenzone sul Garda – and the European one – in 2021 with a race in advance in Croatia -) were awarded (SVV, 4 points, dnc, 1,1,1,1) the Trophy International Emilio Benetti Historic Event ISCYRA, a prestigious event now in its sixtieth edition and well organized in Viareggio – which hosts one of the most important fleets in the world and which is considered one of the most popular Star regatta courses, surrounded by the backdrop of the Apuan Alps – by Società Velica Viareggina, Club Nautico Versilia and Yacht Club Cortina d’Ampezzo, delegated by the Fiv, in collaboration with the Versilia Sailing Clubs Committee, the CV Torre del Lago Puccini, the LNI Viareggio section, the assistance of the Port Authority of Viareggio and the support of Telemar Yachting Italy.

For the CEO of Slam, this is the seventh victory at the Benetti Trophy: an absolute record in the history of the event.

Also on the podium are Giampiero Poggi (winner of 5 editions) with the Viareggio native Davide Mugnaini (AVBracciano; 13 points, 3,2,5,7,3) and Vincenzo Locatelli (present in 41 editions, won 4 times) with Alberto Ambrosini (LNI Mandello del Lario; 14 points; 7,8,2,3,2), second and third place respectively.

During the awards ceremony held in the rooms of the Versilia Nautical Club, the SVV President Paolo Insom, the CNV Secretary and Sports Director Muzio Scacciati, the Star Class Assistant Silvio Dell’Innocenti, the Tourism Councilor of the Municipality of Viareggio Alessandro Meciani , the President of the II Fiv Zone Andrea Leonardi and the Ensign of the Port Authority of Viareggio Daniele Pettorelli (representing the Commander Silvia Brini) also awarded the fourth and fifth place overall – respectively the Neapolitan designer Alberto Simeone with Fulvio De Simone (Cd Remo and della Vela Italia; 8,3,8,2,4), and the multiple champion from Luino Flavio Favini with Nicolas Seravalle (AVAVerbano; 2,4,3,12,8) ex aequo at 17 points; the winners of the day’s trials (Carlo Buzzi with Fabio Barindelli protagonists of the opening regatta, and Chieffi-Colaninno), Ennio Buonomo’s Utopia Ita 7032 boat but helmed by Corrado Musso with Marco Esposito (with sail number 8363) for the 40 years of age; the first Master helmsman (Giampiero Poggi), the first Grand Master helmsman (Enrico Chieffi), the first Exalted (Carlo Buzzi) and, new to this edition, the first Young Under 30 (Alessandro Sodano) as proof of the commitment of Velica Viareggina in promoting the Star among the younger ones.

The 2024 Andrea Bandoni Trophy reserved for the first members of the Viareggina Sailing Fleet went to the hosts Giampiero Poggi and Davide Mugnaini (the Trophy, in the event that the winner of the Benetti Trophy is a member of the SVV, goes to the second place of the SVV in the general classification).
