CATANIA – Arrest with chase in Catania. The Etna Finance Police, during a check in the San Giovanni Galermo district, noticed a person quickly get out of a car and get into another parked one and start driving. Ordered to stop, the man instead fled by ramming several cars along the road.
The race ended near the Nesima Superiore district where the driver hit a concrete wall. The pursuit of the man continued on foot until a financier managed to reach him and stop him after a brief struggle.
Inside the man’s car, the military they found a 357 Magnum caliber “Smith & Wesson” drum pistol equipped with 4 cartridges of the same caliber and ready for use. The arrested person is a 35-year-old man from Catania, with numerous criminal records for robbery, theft, aiding and abetting and drug dealing.
The man was taken to the Piazza Lanza prison. The analyzes revealed that the recovered weapon was part of the loot from a previous theft of 13 weapons perpetrated three years earlier in a villa located in the Etna area. Through inspection of the suspect’s cell phone, the financiers traced back to another criminal from Catania, co-responsible for the crime of receiving stolen goods and reported on the loose.
