The State Police dismantled a criminal organization that operated in Gela between June 2023 and February 2024, defeating a group dedicated to cocaine dealing, receiving cultural goods and possessing clandestine weapons.

The investigation started from the hospitalization of a young man due to cocaine intoxication. The investigative activities, conducted by the Investigation Team of the Gela Police Station and coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, made it possible to reconstruct the illicit activity of the group.

During a joint operation, four precautionary measures were carried out: a 37-year-old man was placed in pre-trial detention in prison, while a 25-year-old was placed under house arrest. A 33-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man were instead banned from leaving the house in the evening and at night and required to report to the Judicial Police.

The searches led to the seizure of a 22 caliber rifle with ammunition, 49 wraps of cocaine, 12,000 euros in cash, proceeds from drug dealing, and archaeological finds of important historical value, including coins, amphorae and a Hellenic cup.

The State Police operation made it possible to dismantle a dangerous criminal group dedicated to various illicit activities and to recover an important cultural heritage. Investigations continue to identify any accomplices and to reconstruct the provenance of the archaeological finds.
