Clean Salerno dispute, Vicinanza appeal: “Withdraw tender company notice”

“The demands of the seventies seem anchored to the remote past, yet gender equality, which is one of the fundamental objectives of the European Union, is still very distant in Italy and, today more than ever, is being called into question by cultural and politicians.

Violence against women, for example, fills our daily news and, unfortunately, there is more and more in the air the celebration of a female role which sees women only as wife and mother, queen of the domestic hearth, a sort of Cinderella of the our days.

I think it is essential to forcefully reject this model and work to destroy gender inequalities, to guarantee all women equal access to education, medical care, decent work and participation in political and economic decision-making processes. Not only because it is a fundamental human right, but because I am convinced it is a necessary condition for the sustainability of economies and social prosperity.

Happy March 8th, therefore, to all women, on my behalf and that of the provincial administration, with the commitment to promote and protect the cultural and political change necessary to combat disparities and stereotypes which in 2023 are absolutely unacceptable”.

The President of the Province of Salerno, Franco Alfieri
