SPV Viareggio returns to win a youth Scudetto with the Under 17s. CGC and Forte come close to the podium

The Hockey Breganze and SPV Viareggio clubs returned to winning after five years in the finals which took place over the last weekend in Castiglione della Pescaia (Under 13) and Viareggio (Under 17). Breganze returns to winning ways 5 years after the last Under 17 championship, winning its first title (since 2000) in the Under 13s, the fifth overall in the last 24 years. Fourth championship since 2000 for SPV Viareggio, the last in the Under 19 of 2018, second in the Under 17 category. Note the hat-trick of the Zone2 in the Under 13, (Breganze, Roller Bassano and Thiene) and the two medals in the Under 17 ( Trissino and Roller Bassano). Roller Bassano, who is missing the fifth team in the next Under 19 event in Follonica, has so far won 1 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze.

In the Under 13, organized by HC Castiglione at Casa Mora, the competition was close from the first matches, with three draws that crushed the ranking, undecided until the last day and the best equipped and most accredited teams left as they went. Hockey Breganze of coach Gabriele Thiella, former coach of the second team and other youth teams, had opened Group B with a draw, 3-3 against the hosts Castiglione. There were three other rather clear victories: 8-1 against Agrate Brianza, 6-0 against Correggio and 11-0 against Thiene. Ranked first in the group with 10 points, he qualified directly to the semi-final, where he won 6-0 against Scandiano. The final was all Vicenza against Roller Bassano, winner of Group A and the semi-final against Thiene 8-2. A single goal, scored in the 5th minute of the 2nd half, by captain Nicola Toaldo which decided the match. Silver for Roller Bassano and bronze for Thiene, beating Scandiano on penalties in the Final (6-5).

The Under 17 National Finals took place at PalaBarsacchi where the organizing club, SPV Viareggio, proclaimed itself Italian Champion. The team coached by Alessandro Martini dominated group A, winning 11-1 against Correggio, 4-1 against CGC Viareggio, 8-3 against Trissino, 12-0 against Lodi. Classified directly for the Semi-final, they won 7-1 again against CGC Viareggio who had beaten Breganze 6-4 in the quarter-finals. In the Scudetto Final they met again with Trissino, who had won in the Semi-final against Roller Bassano on penalties 7-6, winner of Group B. The final was characterized by two goals from Cardella at the opening and closing of the first half, with two goals in the middle from Ceretta and Fortuna from Trissino, in a very exciting final with three goals in one minute. Opportunities abounded in the second half but there was also a bit of fear but Giovanni Pesavento decided the match by stealing the ball from the Vicenza defense 25 seconds from time, capitalizing on a clear counterattack that didn’t fail, making it 3-2 for the Scudetto. Silver for Trissino and bronze for Roller Bassano who won 2-1 in the final against CGC Viareggio.
