Dying at work, in Calabria in the first 4 months of the year significant increase in accidents

CATANZARO At a national level, reports of accidents at work in the first 4 months of the year increased by 3.6%, in Calabria by 6.1%, and reports of fatal accidents increased by over 130% in Calabria , a region in which 7 fatal accidents were recorded in the first four months of the year. These are some data contained in the latest Inail report: Teresa Citraro, director of the regional Inail, illustrated them to “Buongiorno Regione” of Tg3 Calabria. The data on occupational diseases is also increasing: at a national level there is an increase of 26%, in Calabria an increase of 5%. «The data is worsening, and this – said Citraro – must make us reflect. These are certainly provisional data and should therefore be analyzed with caution, because they may undergo changes. The watchword can only be prevention, in this both Inail and the Ministry of Labor are implementing every useful action both in terms of incentives for companies to invest in safety and in terms of a cultural change to the problem. Obviously we also need more checks and therefore a more combined action, but it is clear that when one intervenes after an injury has occurred the battle has already been lost, which is why prevention is a priority.”
