“This is how we relaunch the Contessa, a key artery”

The relaunch of a crucial artery. For communications. For tourism. And for the economy. At the headquarters of Enit, the National Tourism Agency, Confcommercio Marche Nord and Confcommercio Umbria – Gubbio present the new program to relaunch state road 452, which has always been the shortest route to connect the two regions. And thus support the tourism businesses damaged during the 8 months of its closure. Today, at 11am, Amerigo Varotti (director of Confcommercio Marche Nord), Barbara Marcolini (vice president of Confcommercio Marche Nord), Barbara Marsili (president of Confcommercio Umbria Gubbio) and Ivana Jelinic (CEO of Enit) will be present. An ancient territorial unit, two regions, a historic road. The reopening of which is to be celebrated with an ad hoc tourism project. ‘Contessa: a door between land and sea is a territorial marketing program developed by Confcommercio Marche Nord and Confcommercio Umbria – Gubbio, created thanks to the contribution of the Municipality of Gubbio, the regional tourism department of Umbria and the Chamber of trade in Umbria to enhance the areas crossed by the SS 452, better known as Strada della Contessa and that is the artery that connects Gubbio and the north-east of the green region with the Marche and the province of Pesaro and Urbino. The 8-month closure of which, from 17 April to 18 December 2023 for important structural interventions, heavily penalized the restaurant and tourist activities in the area, with losses in the province of Pesaro and Urbino alone of over 10% of the turnover, equal to approximately 2 million Euros. Hence the need, with the summer season upon us, for a relaunch project. To be divided into three fundamental strands, linked to the history and culture of the neighboring territories of the two regions: namely food and wine, historical-Renaissance and archaeological.

Thus, in the sign of an entirely Umbrian-Marche synergy, the Menu della Contessa were born, food and wine circuits dedicated to the discovery of restaurants and local products between Umbria and Marche. Also scheduled from mid-June to mid-September are the Gastronomic Weeks of (A)Sea: during which participating restaurants on the coast of Pesaro, Fano, Marotta and Gabicce Mare will offer, on agreed days, fish or meat menus at a special price. But also the routes dedicated to the Montefeltro and Della Rovere families, lords of these lands: among many, Pedalando in the land of the Duke, a series of tourist cycle itineraries between Urbino, Gubbio and Pesaro, and the one that leads from Umbria to Mondavio, dominated by the bulk of the Rocca Roveresca.
