Cesena, 4 June 2024 – “Ciak, let’s turn”. Let’s start with the Masini Fountain in the foreground, the Municipality in the background and, in the middle, Matteo Gatta (I pay, for those who will see it on the big screen) who pedals towards viale Mazzoni with a girl on the bike cannon.
Not those carbon fiber bikes of today, of course. One of the more ‘complex’ ones that were in vogue between the 80s and 90s, the time in which it is set ‘Returning East’sequel to the popular one ‘East – Last Minute Dictatorship’ and whose filming has moved to yesterday Cesena.

Cesena as set
A city and in particular its Old Town as open-air sets they are an opportunity not to be missed, for cinema enthusiasts, but also for the many curious people who attended the shooting of the film, trying to peek between monitors and cameras, fascinated by an art which, once the lights go out in the cinema, it becomes almost magic. Thanks to all the people who work there, who are not few at all and who yesterday was impossible not to notice while walking through the heart of the city.
To impart the director was there Antonio Pisuwhich started work just before 9am, in one Piazza del Popolo initially taken by surprise from the extras dressed in the fashion of thirty (abundant) years ago and with a series of operators who worked hard to keep the people of Cesena of the 21st century out of the shots that take us back to 1991, the year in which the story is set .
The plot of the movie
While the world seems to breathe an air of change after the fall of Berlin Wall, says the synopsis, the delicate game of international espionage has not stopped. In the heart of Italy, the Earthquakes monitor an operation that intertwines hidden destinies and secrets.
In this scenario of underground tensions, I pay, Rice And Bibi, friends from Cesena, embark on a journey to Sofia, driven by bonds of heart and friendship. This trip, however, is not their first encounter with the unpredictable: after an adventure in Romania, they thought they had already seen it all. But life has new surprises in store for them. After 4 weeks of filming in Bulgarianow and until June 15th the crew will remain in Romagna, moving to different locations, mostly in Cesena. Also because in fact the images of Cesena that will be presented to viewers will be more substantial than the brushstroke of the first film.
Filming locations
The resumed were carried out in series, taking care of the details. This is how it works and particularly for those who are not in the sector, the impact can only be fascinating. Even more so in front of cameras some people from Cesena, to whom they were assigned, also ended up extra roles.
So we went through changes of clothes and make-up and wig underneath Rock, to acting in front of the camera. The crew moved throughout the day, from Piazza del Popolo at the Barrierthe streets of center And Almerici square. However, in the next few days we will also film in some indoor locations and in other iconic environments, such as stadium, for example. It’s not for nothing that Pago has the Cesena Football in the blood. And he will prove it.
