Like every year, also the province of Piacenza prepares for summer forest firefighting campaign, a period of high danger for flames in natural areas and of maximum activation for the civil protection system. In this phase, the volunteer teams will be engaged in spotting, prevention and extinguishing activities, as well as in the active fight against forest fires, monitoring the Piacenza valleys to support citizens and collaborating closely with the regional civil protection agency of Emilia-Romagna, the firefighters and the forestry carabinieri.

The provincial territory of Piacenza is highly characterized by the presence of wooded areas and vegetation, which entails a high risk for fires. In fact, it is worth remembering that the province of Piacenza, over the years, has been the scene of several relevant episodes: a total of 121.2 hectares were burned in the period 2021-2023or more than one million square meters of land in the three-year period.

To better prepare, last Saturday the territory of Ironworks was affected by one extensive forest firefighting exercise, called “Ese Aib Ferriere 2024”, a day dedicated to education and training for civil protection volunteers in the province of Piacenza authorized to put out forest fires. Based in the supra-municipal center of Cà Nova, it was possible to simulate water relaunch operations with the use of tanks, used as mobile tanks and for drawing water from helicopters, in addition to the flame extinguishing simulation with operational teams . The update focused on the use of AIB (forest firefighting) modules mounted on special off-road vehicles and on the equipment supplied. Around 70 civil protection volunteers from Piacenza participated in the activities.

The provincial coordination of Piacenza also works to consolidate the cooperation and coordination of the teams operating in the border area with the other provinces and regions. For this purpose, one was invited forest firefighting team of civil protection volunteers from the Santo Stefano d’Aveto detachment (Genoa).
