S. MARINELLA – The assembly called for the presentation of the project of the municipal youth council, which was held at the Casina Trincia, was a great success. Many young people attended the meeting, with the aim of finding out more. The mayor Pietro Tidei, the president of the city council Emanuele Minghella and the youth policy delegate Jacopo Ceccarelli addressed the topic and explained its purposes. Also present at the meeting were councilors Baciu, Rosa, councilor Vinaccia and representatives of some city cultural associations. “This project – said Tidei – marks a significant turning point in the history of the municipal administration because it allows young people to become participants in the development of our city, through listening, dialogue and discussion with the representatives of the city institutions themselves. The protagonists of tomorrow are the young people of today. This project is dedicated to them, which is finally coming to life and deserves the full attention of us administrators. We invite the young citizens of Santa Marinella to approach this project with interest and enthusiasm, organizing themselves into groups and lists to participate in the elections for the appointment of their representatives, who will be able to present their requests in full autonomy and express their points of view on the issues that concern the territory”. Bringing young people closer to political life was the heart of Prime Minister Minghella’s speech. “The statistics tell us about a distancing of the new generations from political life – explained Minghella – young people who are often disappointed, also desert the elections, deciding not to vote, thus renouncing one of the fundamental rights and duties of our democracy. It is therefore to be hoped that this project finds broad consensus among young people, restoring their trust in politics and institutions. It will be the administration’s responsibility to listen to and implement the observations and requests that come from the members of the youth council.” It was delegate Ceccarelli who got to the heart of the regulations and the methods of participation, opening the discussion to the young people who attended. “We believe in the potential that the youth municipal council offers to the administrative and political work of the city – underlined Ceccarelli – I remember that participation is open to all citizens aged 14 to 25, who will gather in real lists to present themselves at the elections, scheduled for the first days of next autumn. We have reason to believe that this is the opportunity that many have been waiting for for a long time to be able to have our say on the issues that are important to us and to implement ideas and projects that we would like to see implemented in the city”.
