Centenary dish, the challenge with…recipes

The primary schools of Legnano have until June 9th to compete

Legnano – The culinary contest started in May – it is taking shape in these last days of school – there is time until June 9th – “The recipes of the Centenary”, with the aim of involving pupils, teachers and parents from primary schools in Legnano. The contest was created by Sodexo, the catering company that has been providing dishes for the city’s school canteens since last January. In fact, schools are challenging each other not with the strokes of the pen, but rather with the strokes of the stove Arca, Carducci, Deledda, De Amicis, Don Milani, Mazoni, Pascoli, Rodari and Toscanini.

To celebrate the 100 years of the City of Legnano togetherthey explain from Sodexo- we thought we’d involve you in a culinary contest to create some recipes together that can be included in the menus of Legnano schools: “The flavors of the past, a look to the future”.

Legnano was born as a peasant village then, with the advent of industry, society transformed from rural to industrial but in that era the meal was purely poor, with a prevalence of legumes and cereals, polenta, sometimes milk and cheese, rarely, on special occasions or on special holidays meat was brought to the table.

Starting from the base of indicated ingredients: cereals: rice, corn, barley, wheat, potatoes, flours, polenta. Meat: loin, eggs, sausage, beef, chicken, turkey Milk and dairy products: milk, Quartirolo, gorgonzola. All legumes, especially beans. All fruit (excluding exotic ones) and all vegetables. Spices and aromatic herbs and onion, it can in fact be created a new recipe or created a particular version of a local dish.

The three winning recipes (a first course, a second course and a side dish) will be announced at the event in the square on 6 October and will make up the special menu of the Centenary of the schools of Legnano. The three families who proposed the winning recipes will receive a plaque commemorating the event. The school from which the greatest number of recipes has arrived will be able to activate a special food education laboratory managed by Sodexo.
