Lamezia Terme – The closing conference of the electoral campaign for the European elections of the Republican Party (PRI), aligned in the Action with Calenda coalition, took place in Lamezia, with the candidate for the Southern Italian constituency Paola Fanfarillo Manganiello, called to represent Abruzzo , Molise, Campania, Puglia, Basilicata and Calabria. The PRI national secretary, the national deputy secretary and the regional coordinator Salvatore Zoccali attended the meeting. Alongside them are the secretaries and provincial coordinators in Calabria of Reggio Calabria Gabriella Andriani, the provincial coordinator of Catanzaro Giuseppe Benincasa, the provincial coordinator of Vibo Valentia Angelo Curcio and the provincial coordinator of Cosenza Alessandro Fabiano.

“We want a united, free, supportive, democratic, republican, liberal Europe, which is invested with a new authority” explains Fanfarillo, “We want to understand it as a federal state, united not only by the currency, but which shares policies relating to the debt public, immigration, healthcare, national defense. These elections will be historic, because they will see opposing anti-European forces, in favor of a divided Europe, and forces that instead want it united. We want a Europe in which Italy counts, which brings answers to the south, to the southern regions that are often marginalized and abandoned to themselves”. As provincial president of Unicoop and representative of the PRI women’s movement of the South, as well as national director of the PRI, Fanfarillo also aims to “relaunch entrepreneurship, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises, cooperatives and social enterprises, which represent an important slice of the European economic fabric, to particularly encourage female leadership, and to restore dignity to work with a minimum wage. European funding needs to be spent on businesses: we have received 136 billion to be used by 2027, and the government has still only spent 38% of it.”

A speech fully shared by the regional secretary Zoccali. “The money arrives from Europe, but the answers do not”, declares the regional secretary, “because the management is incorrect or because it is not spent at all. Instead, we need the funding to be spent in the weakest areas, to avoid creating inequality between the different areas. In fact, we want children throughout Calabria to have access to school in the same way, and the elderly to local healthcare and hospitals, who today experience a situation of profound lack of attention on the part of the institutions, with areas that are equipped and manage to do it, and structures like the one in Locri that die due to lack of equipment”. “I am happy to return to Calabria for this electoral round”, declares the national secretary De Rinaldis, “but I do so at a time when a situation of the utmost gravity is occurring at a national level, due to the recent attack by the League on the President of the Repubblica Mattarella, which places the State in a situation of imbalance, and in relation to which the centre-right forces have not taken the position they should have. We, however, will be alongside the President, because we want a Europe that is able to integrate with the republics and their values, as Mattarella himself has always said”.
