The speculative bubble on the MotoGP rider market which had swollen out of all proportion suddenly bursts thanks to the Aprilia pin, the first important step of the season.
It was a back and forth that lasted three seasons, and in the end Jorge Martin decided to put a stop to it. At the Borgo Panigale factory, which had secured the official bike for Jorge due to good results this year, a couple of subpar races were enough to understand what marketing value Marc Marquez has associated with Ducati, to call everything into question.
Marc’s ultimatum, only official bikes in 2025, must have put an end to the rider market for Ducati. Jorge Martin’s sudden announcement also has the flavor of spite, a gut decision after yet another disappointment. Aprilia certainly takes advantage of this, as to replace Aleix Espargarò they wanted a top team capable of continuously fighting for the title, who will however have to find the same harmony born with the Borgo Panigale bike.
For Ducati there is the risk of an avalanche, via Jorge Martin, but also via Enea Bastianiniwhich apparently is evaluating the other official Aprilia saddle or an official KTM saddle, effectively relieving the Ducati team of valuable first riders, but with a dream team like Bagnaia-Marquez…
However, the official Ducati of the Pramac team should be tempting, an option much desired by Marco Bezzecchi last year, in severe crisis, but a very valid option also for Enea Bastianini.
We await the announcement of the official marriage between Ducati and Marc Marquez.
