Taranto, The Santórsola Quartet opens the exhibition ‘The Strings that Play’

On June 5th, in the evocative cloister of the MUDI in Taranto, the Santórsola Quartet will inaugurate the “Le Corde che Suonano” series, part of the 80th concert season of the Amici della Musica Arcangelo Speranza.

The Santórsola Quartet, made up of guitarists Antonio Rugolo, Angelo Gillo, Vincenzo Zecca and Livio Grasso, was born in 2006 from a long friendship between former classmates, now established teachers and concert performers. The name pays homage to the Apulian composer Guido Santórsola, author of significant compositions for four guitars.

The repertoire includes original pieces and numerous world premieres. Their recordings, distributed by labels such as Suonare Records, Brilliant Classics, and Naxos, have been favorably received by critics and broadcast by important Italian and international radio stations. The quartet plays guitars specially built by the Milanese luthier Roberto De Miranda, including an eight-string guitar and a quintuplet.

The evening’s program includes the performance of the Concerto Democratico Op. 108 by John W. Duarte, the Sonatina di Primavera Op. 27, the Americana Op. 96 and, in the world premiere, the piece Cartoons by Giancarlo Sanduzzi, dedicated to Santórsola Quartet.

The “Le Corde che Suonano” event, organized by the Friends of Music Arcangelo Speranza under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, the Puglia Region and the Municipality of Taranto, will be held in the MUDI Cloister, in the heart of the old city of Taranto, with starts at 9pm.
