Pisa, between classical and jazz Music under the Tower returns

The appointment with is back Music under the Tower, a music festival organized by the Opera della Primaziale Pisana in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Pisa-Caritas Diocesana. From 3 to 12 July 2024, in the Cloister of the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo di Pisa, four musical events that alternate classical and jazz proposals, in an evocative setting that offers a view of the Leaning Tower from a unique and enchanting perspective. The event is part of the celebrations for the 850th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone of the Tower of Pisa.

First date, Wednesday 3 July at 9.30pm, with EstrOrchestra and Chiara Morandi solo violin. Scheduled The Eight Seasons, with music by Antonio Vivaldi and Astor Piazzolla for solo violin and string orchestra. Directed by the well-known violinist Chiara Morandi, EstrOrchestra presents itself to the public in various ensembles, from the string group to the large symphony orchestra and also in chamber groups. For several years it has been organizing concert seasons, with programs that embrace every musical genre: from baroque, to film music, opera, from refined pieces of contemporary music up to the great symphonies of Beethoven.

Friday 5 July at 9.30pm, Vivacidade Trio offers music by Gioacchino Rossini, Nikolaj Andreevič Rimskij-Korsacov, Pixinguinha, Astor Piazzolla, Ennio Morricone, Richard Galliano, Celso Machado, Pietro Adragna and Giuseppe Sinacori. The panache and liveliness of South American music mix with Mediterranean sounds to give life to an unprecedented artistic partnership. The virtuosity of Pietro Adragna’s accordion, the sweet sound of Chiara Sernesi’s flute and the expressive power of Giuseppe Sinacori’s guitar come together in a new and original concert proposal.

Wednesday 10 July at 9.30pm, it will be the turn of the Kanon Trio, with Lena Yokoyama violin, Alessandro Copia cello, Diego Maccagnola piano. The Kanon Trio, whose name, in addition to having assonance with the Canon, is also the union of two Japanese words, Kaflower and Hon, music, therefore literally “flourishing music”, was born in the summer of 2012 from the friendship of three musicians who decided to share their passion for chamber music. The trio performed in numerous concerts in Italy and abroad, enjoying success with the public and critics everywhere. The program includes music by Ludwig Van Beethoven, Fritz Kreisler and Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy.

The final, Friday 12 July at 9.30pmwith the Italian singer-songwriter Simona Molinari, who offers a journey through her songs and her music, into the dense times of life: falling in love, passion, deception, disenchantment, love and commitment. The program includes music by Simona Molinari, Ella Fitzgerald, Ennio Morricone, Francesco De Gregori, Lucio Dalla.

The proceeds from the ticket office will be donated to the Archdiocese of Pisa-Caritas Diocesana, to support the solidarity and assistance project in the area Soup kitchen. There were more than 50 thousand meals in 2023, with 685 different people taking advantage of them. These are the numbers of radical poverty, which unfortunately is growing, a concrete sign that there are individuals in our territory who do not even have the essentials to survive. The canteens of Cottolengo, for lunch and of Santo Stefano for dinner, reached a peak of 150 daily presences. The canteen is the first answer to the question “help me survive” that we encounter at the Listening Center. A service totally borne by the ecclesial community which allows us to be close to life made final and responds to Jesus’ invitation “give them YOURSELF to eat”.

Every evening of the concert the bar/café on the upper floor of the museum will remain open until 9:00 pm. For the occasion, the Bookshop inside the Museum will also have extended hours.
