The final ceremony of the scholarship in memory of the young Maria Rosaria Cuomo will be held on Tuesday 4 June – from 10.30 am – in the Auditorium of the Virgilio Institute in Pozzuoli. The Cuomo family and the VG, VH and VL classes of the linguistic high school will take part in the event. The “La bella giorno” scholarship required the development of a work in a language inspired by the human story of the young woman and the diary edited in 2003 by her brother Carlo which collects the texts that the girl wrote during her period of illness in his school diary.

Maria Rosaria Cuomo – called Iaia in the family – was a 12-year-old girl who in 1999 should have started attending the linguistic high school of the Virgilio Pozzuoli teacher training institute. Her project did not materialize because in October 1998 she was diagnosed with violent leukemia and, after having brilliantly passed her eighth grade exam, in June 1999 she said goodbye to the world. At the time her mother was a teacher and vicar of the Virgilio Institute in Pozzuoli. From that moment on, her parents decided to continue her daughter’s school project by promoting scholarships over the years that rewarded a student of the linguistic high school.
