“The attack that the League, i.e. one of the parties that is leading our country, has launched against the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, makes us understand which direction the Government will take if the law on the premiership on which we reiterate our total opposition.” Thus the national president of the ACLI, Emiliano Manfredonia, regarding the post on X that Claudio Borghi wrote yesterday against the Head of State, Sergio Mattarella, asking for his resignation. “The League confirms its profound anti-European vocation, at a time when the community bond must be strengthened and not diluted. Also for this reason we are against the proposed law on the premiership that the Government has presented in recent weeks and which would in fact diminish the role of the President of the Republic, with the risk of concentrating too large a slice of power in the hands of the executive and closer to the regimes than to modern democracies”, added Manfredonia, underlining that “our popular initiative law proposals that we presented last Thursday, on the transparency of political parties and the democratic participation of citizens, go in the opposite direction and aim precisely to recover the principles of our Constitution according to which sovereignty belongs to the people. The real reform, in fact, lies in putting citizens, their aspirations and their problems back at the centre, and not in fueling top-down and polarizing designs”.
