Alarm bell on the buffalo milk supply chain in the region. According to what has been learned by Coldiretti Campania, there may be unfair commercial practices in place to the detriment of farmers. The attention on the issue starts from the rumors according to which some dairies have decided to no longer collect the raw material from the usual suppliers, effectively creating a “unilateral cancellation of the contract”.
The action appears to be based on the intention not to pay the prices agreed in the existing supply contracts. In other cases the complaint concerns the request for a cost reduction, always to the detriment of what has already been stipulated, in order to continue receiving the supply.
“Coldiretti Campania, in addition to expressing closeness to the farmers who are undergoing this type of request, is already ready to request the intervention of the competent bodies to initiate procedures aimed at ascertaining possible violations of the provisions regarding unfair commercial practices as provided for by the Legislative Decree n 198 of 2021″ declares the regional director of Coldiretti Salvatore Loffreda who adds: “We ask breeders to report any abuse that can be identified in order to allow us to denounce these attitudes and protect everyone’s interests”.
Rumors that arrive just before the season in which there is the greatest demand for Mozzarella di Bufala Campana. More demand equals more milk. This is why the question remains where all the raw material that is then transformed comes from.
Coldiretti Campania asked the Istituto Zooprophylattico del Mezzogiorno and the Ministry of Food Sovereignty for the production data of the milk supply chainin order to carry out checks and understand whether products from outside the region should be added to internal production.
