Prediction respected on the first day of Group D of the NATIONAL UNDER 15 FINAL EXCELLENZA in Anagni. CAB Stamura loses to the highly rated Aquila Basket Trento with the Trentino team starting off on the right foot in the race for the Scudetto which sees them among the favourites. Clearly superior physicality for Dolomiti Energia with CAB Stamura holding up well in the first quarter then gradually loosening up when the opponents raise the level by making the most of the talent of its stars and the overall athleticism that is sometimes out of category. A CAB Stamura that to resist would have had to have a much better percentage of heavy shots (in the end 6/34) and hope for the bad day of some opponent who instead was punctual and brilliantly managed within the large Trentino rotations.
Good approach to the match by CAB Stamura who in the first quarter were not afraid of Trento’s greater physicality and played openly. Marinelli produces a lot under the basket, Socci and Roccheggiani on the perimeter attract the attention of the opposing defense. Trento misses a lot even easy shots and allows the green and whites to close ahead in the 10th minute with a support from below from an excellent Marinelli (13-15).
In the second half of the second quarter Dolomiti Energia raises its voice. At 24-23 the Trentino team made the break driven by one of the three Italians on the team, Modanese. L’Aquila goes +9 (34-23), CAB Stamura finds the first two points from Conti and the first half ends with a triple from Della Bernardina who puts Trento’s maximum advantage in the first 20 minutes in the notebook (41 -29).
At the start of the second half CAB Stamura adjusted their three-point percentage (1/14 in the first half) with Roccheggiani making two triples in a row and scoring 10 points. But in defense the Dorians grant their opponents just as much effectiveness in heavy shooting. Andreoli and Machetti score from beyond the arc and Trento goes up 55-41. CAB Stamura tries, the Roccheggiani-Socci duo brings the green-and-whites back to -9 (55-46) but then there is a new break from Dolomiti Energia who with an 11-0 lead they extend to 66-46 thanks to winning shots from area often born from captured offensive rebounds. At 30′ Trento was up 70-51 and the game launched into a final quarter where we began to think about measuring our energy in view of the next efforts.
Trento reaches +23 (74-51), Regini scores the second triple of his evening but the result is now decided. Coach Ferri empties the bench and the match continues with March’s Bianconeri closing the gap to the final 87-59.
A defeat that could happen for CAB Stamura against an out of reach opponent. Tomorrow second day against the winner of Anzio-Roseto.
