During patrolling, officers of the Traffic Police Section, traveling along the Catania ring road, surprised and reported two people for attempted fraud in competition. The two, a 20-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman, originally from Adrano and known criminals, brought the infamous “mirror scam” ai damage to an elderly person. The methods of action are always the same, they fall within the classic simulation of a collision caused by throwing an object against the side of a passing vehicle, and then ordering the victim to stop and start the undue bargaining. The passing patrol, suspicious of the presence of two vehicles stopped on the emergency lane and of a young man intent on gesturing towards an elderly man, immediately stopped, stopping the criminal intent still in the attempt phase. The victim, an entrepreneur from Puglia, in Sicily for work reasons, thanked the patrol who intervened thanks to which he did not give in to the pressure to pay the undue sum of 130 euros requested by the torturers. The traffic officers accompanied the authors of the attempted scam to the traffic police offices where they were reported to the judicial authority.
