TARANTO – The chief of staff of the Taranto police headquarters, Michele Viola, 52 years old, died yesterday afternoon in a road accident on state road 172 between Taranto and Martina Franca. The victim, originally from Reggio Calabria, was riding a bike when, for reasons to be ascertained, she was hit by a Ford. The impact was fatal for the 52-year-old and the rescuers could not help but confirm his death.
The police who intervened on the spot with the firefighters are investigating. Viola came from the police station of Palms and took office in Taranto on 6 April. The provincial general secretary of the union of SIULP Police of Taranto, Antonio Digregorio, in a note he recalled Viola’s great professional and human qualities: «Dr. Viola was a person with invaluable human and professional qualities and his tragic passing is a serious loss for our administration. May the closeness and condolences of all Siulp reach the family.”
