Blood tribute
This year the toll in human lives has already been very heavy. Less than a month ago, on May 18th, just two kilometers away, a tragedy occurred disturbingly similar to yesterday’s. That day, a Saturday evening, another Venetian couple died: Mario Mazzuccato, 68, and his wife Morena Boscolo, 66, residents of Spinea. They were traveling on a Suzuki motorbike returning home from Chioggia. Along a straight line, to overcome the long column of cars they would have crossed the center line and, perhaps due to the sudden entry of another motorbike, they would then have ended up in the opposite lane crashing into a minivan, also in that case occupied by German tourists . That episode, like many others in the past, had raised the issue of road safety along the Romea road. «I am the first to promote safety interventions, especially in areas characterized by intersections where unfortunately accidents of a certain severity have occurred in the recent past – explained the mayor of Codevigo, Ettore Lazzaro – The tragedy (of 18 May, ndr) occurred on a straight stretch of road. This makes me think that the safety of the Romea counts up to a certain point if the most basic principles imposed by the Highway Code are not respected. Accidents of this type must not happen again”.
