Nothing to be done for the pine between Largo Villa Glori and Corso Tacito. The specimen will be cut down and “there are no conditions to guarantee different interventions”. This is what is specified in an ordinance signed by the mayor of Terni Stefano Bandecchi.
The ordinance Despite the assessments of experts, who were asked if there were solutions other than culling, the answer was only one: it is necessary to cull the specimen. «Considering the levels of high attendance of the area by people, the presence of commercial establishments and buildings in the surrounding area – reads the opinion of Doctor Cristiano Massarelli in the ordinance – the vulnerability of the area was assessed as absolutely high just as the level of risk related to the presence of the arboreal specimen was considered high, as the effects related to even a partial crash of it would be absolutely serious”.
Culling As can be seen from the ordinance, the task for evaluating the phytosanitary status of the pine was entrusted in October 2022. The opinion report was then registered in 2023. And it reads: «The presence of the tree is not evaluated compatible with the characteristics of the site in question, assigning the specimen to the class of propensity for failure D”. Some technicians were also consulted on possible alternative solutions, the outcome was negative. Furthermore, there is also the flowerbed involved, which “cannot be removed”. Afor will go into action shortly. And the possibility of “removing the stump in relation to the presence of the construction works present in order to be able to plant a new tree, the species of which will eventually have to be agreed with the municipal offices” will also have to be evaluated.
