Fake investigations, fake police, fake bank managers, this is how the scam starts. In Agrigento and its province, from the beginning of the year to today, there have already been over thirty cases of people who have been defrauded and who have lost thousands and thousands of euros. But there are also those, a few, who managed to escape unscathed. The victims filed a complaint with the Postal Police and the Carabinieri. Investigations are underway. Unscrupulous scammers. Criminals have refined their techniques to be more credible with scam text messages (smishing) and phone calls (vishing).The dynamics. The victims received a call on their cell phones from individuals who introduced themselves as carabinieri and were informed of ongoing investigations against them because their bank accounts showed anomalous movements. Announcing that they would shortly receive a phone call from the bank manager. From there, within a few minutes, the transfers started from 3,000, 5,000 up to 20/25 thousand euros, almost all to foreign current accounts. Only then did the victims discover that they had been deceived, defrauded and robbed. Law enforcement agencies invite the population not to provide sensitive data to strangers. If you have the slightest doubt you need to do two things: either call the police (112) or even better, physically go to the nearest police station or to your local bank branch.
