“The sea takes care of us because we belong to it… as told by the Zen story of the salt doll who wanted to enter the water at all costs and did so by accepting to melt down to the last grain.” With this love and passion, Dr. Paolo Piras, Public Prosecutor of the Court of Sassari, inaugurated, last June 1st, the cycle of interventions entitled “Nautic Sports and Disability”.

The event, held in the Aula Mossa of the Department of Law of the University of Sassari, was organized and moderated by Prof. Giovanni Pruneddu, professor of Navigation Law at the same university. Following Dr. Piras, the Vice President of the Regional Council of Sardinia, Aldo Salaris, the President of the Lega Navale Sassari section Michele Pruneddu, the UISP trainer Aldo Curcio, the multiple world water skiing champion Jeff Onorato and Gianfranco Bacchi, spoke. 122nd Commander of the training ship Amerigo Vespucci and current President of the Cala dei Sardi Yacht Club.

Michele Pruneddu, Curcio, Onorato and Bacchi addressed the issue of disability in sport from different perspectives, underlining how important it is to take advantage of adequate structures and institutional support, elements necessary for sports associations to guarantee accessibility to water sports by everyone, regardless of physical abilities and mobility. Only through sharing objectives and perseverance in facing and overcoming obstacles can the sea become an inclusive environment that can be used by all, without any limits.

From this perspective, the synergy between the Lega Navale di Sassari and the Cala dei Sardi Yacht Club continues, which this year have started a major promotional project dedicated to sailing for people with disabilities. This has materialized with a competitive team that actively participates in the regattas of the Hansa303 circuit, boats designed to allow everyone to sail safely.
