«After so much criticism for that “write Giorgia” now secretary Schlein also invites you to vote only for Elly». This is how Giorgia Meloni responds to the criticisms of recent weeks from the Democratic Party. In an interview with Tommaso Cerno, director of The weather, the prime minister returns to talk about the dem secretary, including on the television duel which was supposed to be broadcast on Rai and which was then cancelled. «It certainly wasn’t Antonio (Tajani – ed.) and Matthew (Salvini – ed.) to prevent the confrontation between me and Elly Schlein from taking place. It’s a shame, it would have been a good opportunity for citizens to understand even more what visions of the world are compared to these European elections”, explained Meloni in the interview.

The candidacy for the European elections

Regarding the decision to run as leader of the European elections, the prime minister adds: «I want to know from Italians if they are satisfied with the work we are doing, both at a national and European level. I also did it because, in addition to being president of the Brothers of Italy, I am president of the European Conservatives. And giving more strength to FdI and the Conservatives means having the possibility of changing European policies”, said Meloni again. The Prime Minister spoke of the vote on 8 and 9 June as a “decisive moment” for Europe, which finds itself “at a crossroads”. And faced with this crossroads, the leader of the Brothers of Italy knows which side to take: «For me, “never with the left” is as valid in Rome as it is in Brussels. We have been and will always be with the centre-right people, and we intend to bring this scheme to Europe too”, reiterated Meloni.

The hypothesis of an alliance with Le Pen

Regarding a possible alliance with the far right of Marine Le Pen, who invited Meloni to join forces, the prime minister specifies: «There are many points of contact with Le Pen, I am thinking in particular of the defense of the borders, the protection of our cultural identity and to a pragmatic and non-ideological idea of the green transition”. On the exploits of the French far right in the polls, Meloni then adds: «This Italian centre-right government has demonstrated how false the alarms raised by the left across Europe about conservative and right-wing parties were. It is natural that other European formations alternative to the left will also benefit from this great success of ours.”
