Abruzzo, the battle of surfers against the breakwaters along the Costa dei Trabocchi

When it comes to surf L’Adriatic it’s not exactly the first sea that comes to mind, and the Abruzzo coast perhaps even less. Yet in these parts, the beach of Vignolamunicipality of Vast, province of Chieti, crashing waves allow runs of 300 meters on a height of two: not quite Hawaii, but at these longitudes you can be satisfied. But the passion of Abruzzo surfers clashes with the need to protect the coast from erosion. Along the entire Trabocchi Coast Hundreds of barriers are planned to be laid breakwater: tons of concrete and stones which should save the beaches but which, according to various local committees, would have a heavy impact on local ecosystems.
