The Terni and Marmore railway stations are among the sixteen stations involved in the “La Ferrovia del Central Italia” project, which aims to boost tourism in as many little-known cities and villages between Umbria, Lazio and Abruzzo, along the Terni – Rieti route – L’Aquila – Sulmona. The project, of which the lead company of the Infrastructure Hub of FS Group is a partner alongside the Riattivati ​​Youth Cultural Association, which in turn falls within the scope of the “The Places of the Heart”, launched in 2003 by FAI – Italian Environment Fund ETS and promoted in collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo to raise awareness of the value of the Italian cultural and landscape heritage.

“La Ferrovia del Central Italia”, specifically, aims to enhance tourism in the, in some cases, little-known villages along the Terni – Rieti – L’Aquila – Sulmona route, which covers a distance of 163.6 kilometers. The installation of information panels in 16 railway stations, with details on the history, culture and peculiarities of the area, enriched by interactive QR codes that offer further information. The route aims not only to preserve cultural and natural heritage, but also to generate a positive impact on the local economy. The project began on Saturday 1 June, with the unveiling of the first panels in the Rieti and L’Aquila stations.

The events will be repeated in the coming months in the stations of Sulmona, Terni, Antrodoco Centro, Marmore, Pratola Peligna, Antrodoco-Borgo Velino, Raiano, Castel Sant’Angelo, Molina, Cittaducale, San Demetrio ne’ Vestini, Contigliano, Paganica and Greccio. “The Umbria Region – we read in a note – has adhered with conviction to this project of The places of the heart and the Railway of central Italy, which enriches a large set of projects and activities already implemented, at a regional and in collaboration with the Lazio Region, for the relaunch of railway connections and sustainable and cycling mobility as development factors capable of changing the future of the territories for the better, enhancing them and making them usable”.
