The woman was taken ill: “Shortly before, he rang to ask for information, then I found him in front of me”

«Shortly before he had played at the bell to ask for information and afterwards I found him in front of me with a knife in his hand.” This is the dramatic story that Lucia Parisotto, 77 years old, she told her relatives a few hours after she and her 83-year-old husband Giulio Cavallin suffered a robbery in their home in Godego Castle in the province of Treviso. The woman, who is the aunt of the town’s mayor Diego Parisotto, felt ill during the attack and was hospitalized.

How they entered the house

Two criminals, probably foreigners, who, with their faces uncovered, did little to hit after 8pm on Friday evening in the two workers’ house retired, at number 25 via Verdi, in the center of the town. It all happened in the space of a few minutes, around dinner time. According to what they said, the two pensioners were in the kitchen when they heard the doorbell ring. She was the 77 year old who went out to see who she was, and at the gate she found a young man: «she asked you for directions to get to via San Pietro and my aunt gave them to her- explains the mayor -. She asked her several times if she was sure. Then you left and my aunt came back into the house.” Shortly afterwards, however, the woman and her husband discovered the man who had rang the doorbell and an accomplice inside the house. The request for road information, in fact, it would have been nothing more than the ploy to distract the owners to enter the house through a secondary door.

The escape after the illness

When the elders noticed the intrusion, the two had already rummaged through some rooms and were moving into the house. Finding themselves discovered, one of the thieves grabbed a knife he found in the kitchen and threatened the retired couple. In particular the 77 year old from whom she tore off the gold necklace she was wearing around her neck, while her husband had to hand over everything the money he had with him: a few banknotes and some change. At that point the criminals ordered Lucia to also hand over the wedding ring that she wears on her finger but she refused: “No, not the wedding ring, it’s too expensive an object for me, I can’t give it to you.” And it is at that moment that she, overwhelmed by the fear the 77 year old had an illness. This led the robbers to flee with the meager loot. Distraught pensioners followed them as the pair ran away.

Fear

The neighbors also saw them in the street: «They were two young men, one had a beard and the other didn’t. They looked like two normal people. Only later did I realize that one of the two had a closed fist, he was probably holding the lady’s necklace.” The neighbors also helped the couple to alert the Carabinieri and 118. In a few minutes the Carabinieri from the Castelfranco Veneto company arrived on site and are now conducting the investigations. No trace of the criminals, apart from the knife abandoned which was seized. The military is also examining the images from the video surveillance cameras installed in the area which could provide useful details for identifying the robbers. «My aunt is a little better but it will take both of us time to get over the shock. What happened is truly worrying, which is why I recommend it to all citizens to always keep their attention high and to close doors and windows tightly.”
