PERUGIA – Full support for Massimo Monni’s candidacy for mayor comes from the national leaders of the PSI. And it was Bobo Craxi himself, Bettino’s son and a leading figure of the carnation who reiterated the party’s total support for the frontman of Perugia Merita, a list which now the socialists include Italia Viva and Tempi Nuovi-Popolari Uniti.
Craxi (in Perugia for his tour which touched numerous Italian cities in view of the European and Administrative elections of 8 and 9 June), spoke during the regional event of the Socialist Party which took place at the Deco hotel. In his wide-ranging speech, which ranged from the war in Ukraine and the Middle East to the memory of Giacomo Matteotti, the former undersecretary underlined that Monni «due to his political provenance which has its roots in the PSI and for the skills and knowledge of the territory, is the figure who can best represent the party in the next administrative elections in Perugia, so as to give a jolt to the radical right and left by reasoning on a broader concept that includes traditionally reformist and liberal forces”. The mayoral candidate of Perugia Merita wanted to thank Bobo Craxi «for his support which is nothing other than the confirmation of the fact that the official PSI has sided with us, that after years it has chosen to support a mayoral candidate of socialist culture such as I am”. For Monni «this synergy is reflected in a common vision regarding the European elections, where we converge towards the United States of Europe (with us also Italia Viva which, in turn, came to my support) as a common home animated by a overall vision that brings the ideals of democracy and peace back to the centre.”
