Seaside businesses: protest along the entire coast tomorrow – Pescara

PESCARA. The beachgoers chose a symbolic date to start the protest: tomorrow 2 June, Republic Day, the summer mobilization will also start on the beaches of Abruzzo, in the wake of the initiatives planned along all the Italian coasts, to ask for a law on concessions.
The trade associations Fiba-Confesercenti and Sib-Confcommercio had already announced it on 11 April, during the street demonstration in Rome, in which more than five thousand bathers took part. In the absence of a government provision, requested several times by the category, an awareness campaign will be launched in beach establishments, aimed at tourists and customers.
The posting of posters and posters detailing the reasons for the protest will be followed by stronger actions to draw attention to the need for certain rules.
«What we have been asking for years», he explains Peppino Susi, regional president of Fiba – Confesercenti Abruzzo, «it is a law to reorganize the entire sector: at the moment there are no rules, each Municipality is moving with maximum autonomy and freedom of action on beach concessions. A wild west that certainly does not favor small family-run businesses.”
The crucial issue is the renewal of concessions. «We want a law that contains fundamental directives», says Susi, «the procedure for assigning concessions must be public, but at the same time the activities that have made investments and which, if not successful in the tenders, have right to compensation, as the Tuscany region is doing”.
The second point on the agenda concerns the “services” directives, which «apply only when there is a shortage of services. A monitoring that the Abruzzo Region does not yet clearly define”, says Susi. The trade associations believe it is essential to also provide a sort of protection or social clause for families who have only the beach concession as their sole source of income, valorising this element in the context of the public tender.
The protest will begin with a wide-ranging awareness campaign «to make customers understand the reasons that led to the state of unrest», underlines the regional president Fiba – Confesercenti, «we are victims of this lack of rules which is creating a state of general confusion, to the detriment of small businesses in the sector”. But it is not excluded that, in the middle of the summer season, beachgoers decide to raise their game and make their voice heard “if the Government, in the meantime, does not take action”.
From tomorrow, in the Abruzzo beach establishments that will join the initiative, posters will be displayed with the following message: «Even today we Italian beach resorts respect the Republic founded on work and the laws of our parliament. June 2, 2024, the mobilization continues for a fair and necessary law that we have been waiting for for 14 years to continue to guarantee bathing services to all Italian citizens”.
«Unfortunately, the government has not yet issued any clarifying legislative provision which safeguards Italian equipped bathing and overcomes the state of administrative chaos», is the message conveyed at a national level by the presidents of Sib-Confcommercio, Antonio Capacchioneand Fiba-Confesercenti, Maurizio Rustignoli, «we have once again, in vain, hoped and waited. As announced, with the actual start of the next summer season our summer mobilization campaign will also begin, which will include a detailed platform of trade union actions. Fundamental and preliminary is a widespread communication and correct information activity on our work and our role, aimed at the tens of millions of Italian and foreign users who will frequent the factories. Our interlocutor must also and primarily be the citizen-customer. We will start with the poster to be displayed in the factories: we hope that the Government and Parliament will do their duty towards tens of thousands of working families.”
