Emilia-Romagna: the European elections will kick off the post-Bonaccini era. Calenda in support of de Pascale

Last days of the electoral campaign, also in Emilia-Romagna for the elections on Saturday and Sunday: in addition to the European elections, five capitals and many other smaller municipalities will vote.

A week in which there are no appointments with the main leaders. However, the European elections in Emilia-Romagna will also have another meaning: the closing of the polls will in fact be the starting whistle of another electoral campaign, which, probably at the end of October or beginning of November, will lead to the election of the new president of the Region .
Stefano Bonaccini is in fact the leader of the Democratic Party in the north-east constituency and will be elected to the European Parliament, bringing forward the natural end of his mandate by a few months. “We’ll talk about it after the European Championships”, is the standard phrase that has been going around for a week, both in the centre-left and in the centre-right, about what will happen for the regional elections.
The weight of the various parties that will emerge from the polls will obviously be a decisive aspect, but the general tests which are represented by the municipal elections rather than by the European elections, suggest that the coalitions will present themselves united.
The greatest fibrillation is currently in the center-left which cannot risk losing its symbolic region. The pretenders to Bonaccini’s succession are many and all within the Democratic Party: the mayor of Ravenna Michele de Pascale who received the support of the leader of Action Carlo Calenda, the vice-president Irene Priolo and the former CGIL labor councilor Vincenzo Colla are currently the hottest names, but it is not a given that the candidate will emerge from this group. From next week we will understand games and positioning better.
The centre-right is in the difficult search for a name not directly attributable to politics to try to achieve the never-successful feat of winning in Emilia-Romagna. But even in this case a lot will depend on which balances emerge from the polls.
