While waiting to understand what the electoral outcome will be in the city and in another important center in the southern area of the province such as Mazzarino, the assembly of mayors of the Ato waste Cl2 in liquidation approved the 2022 budget. It was the financial act most relevant in the management of an area which has often been at the center of much controversy over the months, with the mayors’ bloc having repeatedly pushed to discuss the possible dismissal of commissioner Giuseppe Lucisano and the transfer of relationships and assets to Srr4, so as to place end of liquidation. The budget was passed in the presence of the mayor Lucio Greco (the Municipality of Gela has the largest share), the mayor of Niscemo Massimiliano Conti and the representative of the Free Consortium of Caltanissetta. The other mayors, however, did not attend. The financial stability of an ATO that has been in liquidation for years is among the points that have been recalled by the mayors, convinced that the liquidation phase must be closed as soon as possible, as it is considered too onerous. Commissioner Lucisano and Mayor Lucio Greco have instead responded, in several places, underlining the need to respect the provisions of the relevant legislation. With the approved budget, however, the weight of the closed composting plant still remains. The restart, after the release from seizure, was scheduled for January. At least two fire damage blocked everything. To date, the Brucazzi system has not restarted. A technical meeting was requested in the Region and in recent weeks there was a visit from the parliamentary commission of inquiry into the waste cycle.
