The exhibition of young Brera artists opens in the Castle

In the second edition of the Kaleidoscope the Traces of the city and those who live there

Legnano – The exhibition of the students of the Brera Academy opens on Saturday 1 June in the rooms of the Visconti Castle. Born from an agreement stipulated between the same institute and the Municipality of Legnano, it is a stage of those cultural paths that see contemporary art at the center of attention.

The team composed of professors Arcangelo Esposito, Franco Marrocco, Daniela Moro and Maria Tcholakova, selected the students with their works and coordinated the various phases in the development of a theme that links the identity of the ancient manor with the hundred years of ‘dedication to a city of which it is ultimately a secular expression.

We asked Franco Marroccowhich defines itself with modesty “one of the two hundred and six professors of the Brera Academy”to guide us in this kaleidoscopic experience that is visual, material and sensorial.

“With some colleagues, we followed a large number of students who wanted to measure themselves with this place. There will be works by young people enrolled in Brera, who already come from various parts of Italy and beyond, plus a small group from other European academies, the Erasmus group, to whom we have dedicated one of the rooms”.

Why the choice to locate this project right here in Legnano?
“Because I believe that this Castle has incredible potential and that Brera can contribute to building something good there”.

Do you already see an art gallery there?
“It could become a place where art can be conceived, seen and enjoyed in an extraordinary context. I’m not thinking of a static collection, we don’t need one, rather a dynamic one, which can best relate us to today’s world.”

Not a museum therefore…
“Not really, I’m thinking of a place that knows how to combine – and apply – training and teaching. I’m not interested in a museum where perhaps ten people enter in one day: it is instead the site of a lively activity, where these two aspects – teaching and training – can intertwine, compare and experience contemporaneity”.

Let’s return to the Legnano exhibition, in these traces highlighted by the kaleidoscope…
“Within the general definition, every year we try to identify a theme, now the traces of the city, those we have inside, those of man on the site, which are perhaps the ones that leave us most perplexed and in any case invite us to think”.

How did the kids experience it?
“Although they may sometimes appear distracted, in reality they are very sensitive to the issues that are shaking the world, which is something to reflect on. I believe that it is not we who have to teach but, on the contrary, learn from them.”

The Councilor for Culture, Guido Bragatoafter having retraced the past and conspicuous collaborations with the Milanese Academy, thanked the professor and the Academy for this second Legnano edition after the positive experience of last year (here is our article), stating that “For us it is an important occasion, an initiative of undoubted artistic value with which to achieve our objectives, first and foremost that of making the rooms of the Castle a place of artistic production, as well as exhibition, in which students work on site and they relate to it, relating to one of the vital points of the city”.
