Sopravento has enchanted and captured the soul of Fano. In Colapesce, Dimartino and Filippo Graziani the Sails at the Third to the seafaring action

The first edition of Sopravènto has ended, a festival that was able to rekindle enthusiasm and bring music closer to the world of the Fano navy through formulas never experimented before.

“If the goal was to excite, we can say we succeeded. They were three incredible days, designed to stimulate relationships around music and seafaring and to let us be pervaded by emotions, so it was” explains Mattia Priori, director of the festival “The music from the punt, the ritual of the procession with the boat to connect the port and historic center, the walks in the morning in the places of the navy, the chats at sunset between artists and sailors on the fishing boat quay and the intimate and engaging concerts inside the former church of San Francesco, worked at their best and were rare and wonderful occasions where everyone brought out the best in themselves.”

Many things happened during the three days of the festival.

The most intense moment on Sunday evening when during his concert Filippo Graziani first told how it had been composed by his father Ivan and then invited the two artistic directors, Colapesce and Dimartino, to come on stage to sing the song I sailors together. A moment of strong emotions in which old traditions such as
that of the nets that were thrown into the sea at the end of the day, or of the departures at dawn for the open sea, which Ivan Graziani had tried to leave imprinted in his text completed years later by Colapesce and Dimartino. “A song that unites”, explained Filippo, and it was exactly like this when for the first time it was sung together by all three with visible emotion. A unique event that Sopravènto and Fano will remember for a long time. Precisely because of this song, which we remember also inspired the birth of the festival, and
for the renewed attention that he was able to give to the theme of seafaring, the organizers in collaboration with the Il Ridosso association, which for years has been the custodian of the Fano seafaring traditions, awarded Filippo Graziani and the duo of artistic directors a symbolic recognition of the city Fanese: small hand-painted third sails.

The festival ended as it had opened, singing through the streets of Fano on board the small boat which was brought back from the stage under the lighthouse. A symbolic and very participatory, evocative gesture, which struck everyone present who pushed the boat and sang over the notes sung by Nicolò Carnesi on guitar. Profound words from the Pipeta brothers, Mauro and Mario, sailors and fishermen with a great family history and tradition, representatives of an exciting maritime culture.

THE NUMBERS
Even if we like to evaluate the event more on the scale of emotions, the numbers were no different either: all three ticketed evenings in the former church of San Francesco were sold out with dozens of people unable to enter they still wanted to follow the events from Via San Francesco. Despite the first edition, the event was also noticed by Radio Rai 1 (average share 708,000 daily listeners!) which on Saturday 25th morning spoke about it live nationally in the Radio di Bordo broadcast, hosting Mattia Priori on the microphones and making a careful focus on the festival and on the seaside city of Fano. there are multiple publications on the web where Sopravènto (data as of 31 May) has reached
121,261 accounts, with 4,227 of these interacting by commenting, liking or sharing content on the web (official Meta data as of May 30, 2024). The Reels of the procession with the punt in the streets of the city of Fano and of the acoustic performance of the song Majorana by the two artist directors walking among the public inside the former church of San Francesco, have gone viral with almost 100,000 views in total in a few days and hundreds of shares.

In general, the feeling you get at the end of the festival is that of being in front of an event that has been able to act as a glue between different sensitivities, linking administration, professionals, associations and bodies together in an overall and citizen-wide project of notable importance. An event of the municipality of Fano strongly desired by the Department of Culture and also supported by the Department of Tourism, proposed and organized by the creative company Rebel House, which has received important citizen support intended
to develop over time to make the bond between music and the sea increasingly more supportive and strong and to make this union a stylistic feature capable of identifying the city of Fano on a national level.
