I am “Places of the heart” to enhance tourism in the villages along the Terni-Rieti-L’Aquila-Sulmona route

Perugia, 1 June. 2024 – The Terni and Marmore railway stations are among the sixteen stations involved in the “La Ferrovia del Central Italia” project, which aims to boost tourism in as many little-known cities and villages between Umbria, Lazio and Abruzzo, along the Terni route – Rieti – L’Aquila – Sulmona.

The regional councilor for Infrastructure and Transport took part this morning in Rieti in the presentation of the project, which sees RFI- Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (lead company of the Infrastructure Hub of the FS Group) as a partner of the Associazione Culturale Giovanile Riattivati ​​and falls within the scope of the “The Places of the Heart” campaign of the FAI – Italian Environment Fund.

The Umbria Region has joined this project with conviction, which enriches a large set of projects and activities already implemented, at a regional level and in collaboration with the Lazio Region, for the relaunch of railway connections and sustainable and cycling mobility as development factors capable of changing the future of territories for the better, enhancing them and making them usable.

The regional councilor, in complimenting the promoters of the project, underlined the importance of networking projects, energies, commitments and defining a timetable in view of the upcoming events which will attract a considerable number of visitors to Umbria and Italy, from the Jubilee of 2025 to the eighth centenary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi which falls in 2026.

Umbria will participate with ideas, passion and concreteness by proposing this project in all the national tables in which it is already present, starting with that of the Cammini, the cycle paths, the Via dell’Acqua.

In the stations involved in the “La Ferrovia del Central Italia” project along the over 163 kilometers of the Terni-Rieti-L’Aquila-Sulmona route, information panels will be installed with details on the history, culture and peculiarities of the territory, with interactive QR codes offering further information .
