The port of Salerno is preparing to welcome the 34th landing of migrants. The city of Arechi was in fact chosen for the docking of the Geo Barents, the Doctors Without Borders ship that rescued 84 people in the Mediterranean in recent days. The ship’s arrival time is not yet certain, but it is expected in Salerno between late Sunday afternoon and Monday morning. This morning, an operational meeting was held in the Prefecture to organize the reception. The meeting, chaired by prefect Francesco Espositosaw the participation of the police commissioner Giancarlo Conticchio, the provincial representatives of the police forces, the delegates of the Municipality of Salerno and the health workers.
They travel on board the Geo Barents 84 migrantsamong which 20 minors. Of these, 19 are unaccompanied, while a little girl made the crossing with her mother. Among the adults there are 62 men and two women. The migrants mainly come from Gambia, Mali, Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Ghana and Senegal. The Municipality of Salerno, as usual, will take care of unaccompanied minors, who will be hosted in structures managed by the Social Policies sector, represented at the table by councilor Paola De Roberto.
