The Salerno Conservatory in chaos: “They abandoned us”

When he has class, Yuri DiLucia, saxophone student originally from Agropoli and representative of the students, must consider that to reach the destination, at the top of Via de Renzi, it will take just over an hour and forty minutes. Not so much to reach Salerno with the train (which takes 38 minutes) but for the rest of the journey needed to get to the Martucci Conservatory. The first step is to get to Piazza Malta, then you have to be lucky enough that the line 1 bus passes on time and wait for it to complete the entire route.

And it certainly doesn’t go any better for fellow musicians who arrive at the Conservatory by car: parking is practically impossible to find so much so that, on peak days, parked cars reach the top of Canalone or risk heavy fines. The result is that in this part of the upper historic center a sort of “time bomb”: residents exasperated by wild parking and students and professors forced to suffer attacks, vandalism against cars and acts of various intemperance. «We are aware – explains the student – cThere are many inconveniences that must be resolved together with the residents. We need to make the two bus lines, 1 and 26, “university” so as to have more trips».

For these guys who carry very bulky instruments on their shoulders and which risk being ruined by humidity, knowing that they have parking or shuttles available would be a more than decisive solution. «We’ve been hearing promises for at least thirty years but nothing ever changes. The situation is becoming increasingly worrying between vandalism and unpleasant situations. The Conservatory should go on strike, do something because no one is moving here», he reiterates Gerardo Lambiase, one of Martucci’s workers.
