In the early hours of this morning the soldiers of the forestry carabinieri group of Reggio Calabria they have carried out five precautionary measuresof which one of house arrest and four mandatory reports to the judicial police, issued by the judge for preliminary investigations of the court of Reggio Calabria against the same number subjects of Italian and Romanian nationality.
The investigative activity, carried out under the direction of the public prosecutor’s office at the court of Reggio Calabria – district anti-mafia directorate, has allowed us to acquire a serious circumstantial evidence, shared by the investigating judge in the aforementioned restrictive order.
The crimes contested are those of criminal association aimed at the illicit management of waste, to their illicit combustion, and organized illicit trafficking of waste.
The vehicles were also seized for the purpose of confiscationthe (trucks) used by the associates for the movement of waste.
The investigation is the result of a complex and detailed investigative activity initiated by the Carabinieri Forestry Unit of Reggio Calabria through which the existence of a stable criminal association dedicated to the illicit management of waste was brought to light, highlighting its criminally relevant conduct.
Today’s result was the result of a roadside inspection of a vehicle loaded with special waste and lacking the required environmental permits. The investigative action conducted with traditional methods and supported by technical activity led to the discovery of several interconnected criminal conducts. Specifically, the individuals affected by the measure illegally disposed of large quantities of various types of waste (wood, ferrous, construction, plastic, sheaths and, even more seriously, Eternit sheets) on agricultural land located on the outskirts of the city, belonging to unaware individuals.
Subjects, through transport, they delivered the waste to the illegally created landfill and then proceed to their combustion, thus setting up an organised and efficient system, of alarming gravity, capable of endangering the health of an indeterminate number of people, as well as creating serious damage and deterioration to the environmental matrices.
The activity is in progress preliminary investigations awaiting the assessments of the judicial authority.
